6 - Proposed ADA Regulations
Presenters: John Wodatch, Chief, Disability Rights Section, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, DC; Turner Madden, Esq., IAAM Legal Counsel, Washington, DC

On May 30, 2008, United States Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey signed proposed regulations to revise the DOJ’s ADA regulations, including its ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The DOJ has taken IAAM's recommendation and lowered the scoping for wheelchair seating. The proposed regulations reduce wheelchair seat scoping from 1% to 0.5% for facilities with over 5001 seats and reduce the wheelchair seat scoping from 1% to 0.75% for facilities with fewer than 5001 seats. Corresponding companion seats are also reduced in the proposed regulations. Mr. Wodatch will discuss the above issues, the use of Segways and many more regulatory issues at this session.

Attendees will:

        reduce their current wheelchair seating
   ●   Find out when wheelchair seat reductions are possible
and the effective date of the regulations
   ●   Discover the other issues in the regulations public
