The Center for Venue Management Studies

management. CVMS works with IAAM staff and work groups, such as the
Safety and Security Task Force, to develop and distribute resource
materials and practice aids for the industry.
- Best Practices:
Convention Center Sales and Convention Center Operations.
A Report from the Joint Study Committee
The Liaison Group of the
International Association of Assembly Managers, Inc. (IAAM) and
Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) publish a
joint best practices document to serve as a set of guidelines
for destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and convention
facilities.
The best practices guidelines are intended to facilitate
partnership, provide joint advocacy, and identify common
objectives for destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and
convention facilities. The underlying objective of the best
practices is to provide the destination customer with a seamless
positive experience from the beginning of the sales cycle
through move out; and they are not crafted to determine the best
structural model for destinations or to be used in individual
circumstances that may be prevalent in specific destinations.

- Public Assembly
Facility Management Journal test article
In July
2002, the IAAM Research Task Force received a charge to create a
test outlet for scholarly research in the field of public assembly
facility management in the form of a scholarly journal. The
journal is expected to mutually benefit those in facility
management and those in research by making the research accessible
to practitioners and to benefit the researcher with an outlet and
an audience for research. In the spring of 2003, the task force
chose "Primary Principles of Post-9/11 Stadium Security in the
United States: Transatlantic Implications from British Practices"
by Benjamin D. Goss, Ed.D., Clemson University; Colby B.
Jubenville, Ph.D., Middle Tennessee State University; and Jon L.
MacBeth, Ed.D., Middle Tennessee State University.
The research task force members were: Cheryl Swanson, Chair; Mark
Bonn, Ph.D. and James Riordan, Vice Chairs; Jan Addison; Roy
Colunga, Jr.; Gil Fried, MA, JD, DABFE; Richard Haycock, CFE;
Butch Hug; Andy Kreutzer; Garnett Mills; Tom Sawyer; Ben Seidel;

- IAAM Mega-Shelter Best Practice
Guidelines for Planning and Activation
Soon after the storms of 2005, IAAM has responded to
the need for best practice guidelines for mega-shelter
operations. This first release, IAAM Mega-Shelter Best Practice
Guidelines for Planning and Activation, provides Facility
Managers with important information that can be helpful in
deliberations with government authorities regarding the use of
their facility in response to major disasters caused by powerful
hurricanes. These guidelines will help the Facility Manager
understand the activation process, shelter standards,
contracting, liability exposure and how to plan for the next
storm season.
