Ron Yorita called

District), Johnna Boxley (Spokane Public Facilities District), Laura
Niles (Hull Center, Eugene, OR), Lori Kramer (Portland Center for the
Performing Arts), Karen Totho (Oregon Conv. Center), Justin Zeuiner

The minutes from the IAAM Dist. IV meeting held during the 2005
Annual Meeting in Reno were distributed. The minutes were approved with
the notation that item #10 should read “Scholarship” Chair and not
“Nominating” Chair.
DVD Report
Ron Yorita, District IV DVD gave a report, providing information
related to the next two District Meetings; 2006 would be held in Boise,
ID the first weekend in April with District VII; District VII would host
the meeting in 2007 and has a site selection committee formed to make
that decision, with the early thoughts of meeting in Las Vegas; Ron
noted that it is possible that District VI would re-join District’s IV
and VII in 2007, but would be discussed by the DVP’s at the national
conference this year in Washington, DC
Financial Report
Financial Report was tabled until Debbie returned from making the Boise
presentation to District VII
Scholarship Report
Laura Niles is the current Scholarship Committee Representative; Laura
informed the district that a 2 year scholarship was awarded to Brian
Joerg of Portland Metro (you might want to confirm his facility, as I
may have not got it down correctly); Laura said that new Oglebay student
applicants would be reviewed next January; Laura is presently looking at
awarding the Michael Kobluk Scholarship to the Senior Executive
Symposium this spring
Nominating Committee Report
Kevin Twohig and John Christenson are the current Committee
Representatives; Kevin noted that he had talked with the current
officers of District IV and everyone was committing to serve another
year for District IV, with the exception of Laura Niles who has resigned
and brought in Lori Kramer of the Portland Center to serve on District
IV’s Scholarship Committee; Kevin asked the members attending the
meeting if they would accept the full slate of officers as stated and
the membership approved it
Newsletter Report
Johnna Boxley is the Communications Representative; Johnna informed the
group that the next newsletter would be compiled after Honolulu at the
end of the month and available in early May; still looking for facility
highlights and other articles from around the district; Ron acknowledged
the tremendous job Johnna has been doing on the quality of the
newsletter and the consistency
Chapter Meeting Concepts
Dexter King was available to inform us of what headquarters was trying
to accomplish with the formation of Chapter Meetings within the
districts; he felt that by holding Chapter meetings in Seattle or
Portland (as examples), we could strengthen bonds between our members
and facilities, which would further strengthen our districts from
within; it would also enable facility managers that are not IAAM members
in the area to network with IAAM members and potentially see the
benefits of becoming IAAM members in that district. Discussion took
place related to the creation of Chapter meetings within our District.
It was not recommended to host Chapter meetings alongside a District
Meeting, as it would take too many out of the office at one time.
Operational meetings rather than Chapter meetings may be recommended.
Scholarship Chair Resignation
Laura Niles Resignation – Ron recognized and thanked Laura for all the
years of service Laura has put in with the Scholarship Committee; Laura
noted that Lori Kramer of the Portland Center would be taking her place
Unfinished Business
Dexter King wanted to encourage the districts to get involved with
the “Self Assessment” program being developed for the different type of
facilities. Presently, only the “stadium” Self Assessment is available;
Dexter wanted everyone to know how secure your information was with DHS
with the protective passwords; there is a significant amount of time you
have to invest in the assessment, but it gives you access to potential
state funds for equipment (cameras, bollards, etc) once your
vulnerability is recognized by the assessment; getting involved with the
assessment also heightens our (IAAM) profile with the government;
presently IAAM membership participation is “poor”. The arena version
will be released after April 25th, 2005.
Financial Report
New Business
Duane Morris suggested that we discuss contribution to the Kevin
Young Educational Trust. Kevin lost a battle with cancer several months
ago. He was an IAAM member and an Oglebay graduate. Duane suggested a
$250.00 contribution. Bob Wagoner moved and Laura Niles seconded the
motion, which was approved.
IAAM is interested in archiving historical information from the
Districts. It is recommended that the District Secretaries serve as the
keeper of historical data. Current Secretary will look through existing
data to see if we have a list of previous officers.
