The certification validates my career as a professional facility manager, and it gives me a sense of personal achievement at the highest level of our industry.

What has been a benefit or is a benefit of having a CFE?
It adds another dimension of professional respect that I receive from my superiors, clients, meeting planners and industry-related organizations.

Would you recommend attaining CFE to other international colleagues?
Absolutely! Why? Aside from the reasons already given, the process reinforces the knowledge you have within your area of expertise, but it also provides valuable information for facets of your line of work that you didn’t know or had forgotten. In addition, the process also enables you to gain insight into other fields within our industry that can enhance your career.

What couldn’t you live without?
Faith.

What’s your most prized possession?
Actually it is plural. My husband, two sons and grandson are the love of my life.

What’s your favorite place on earth?
I have several: Festive San Antonio, TX; sunsets on Okinawa, Japan; castles in Heidelberg, Germany; and beautiful mountains of Roanoke Valley.

What’s your most favorite moment in sports history:
1998/1999 season when the San Antonio Spurs basketball team won the NBA championship. I remember the days when I managed Hemisfair Arena and they were in last place.

What’s the one thing most people would be surprised to learn about you?
In my fingers, a concert pianist is waiting to come out. In reality, I can’t play a lick.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes, IAAM and IAAMF have provided many educational and organizational opportunities that have had a tremendous impact on my career. The CFE is one of them, and I encourage anyone who has not received their certification to take advantage of a very valuable opportunity.
