Joan LeMahieu, new chair of the Foundation Board of
Trustees, recently announced the creation of the Chairman’s Advisory Council and
appointed Mich Sauers, senior vice president of Comcast-Spectacor and former
chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees, to lead this important initiative.
While
its primary focus will be to assist with Foundation fundraising efforts, the
Council will also explore ways by which the Foundation can increase its profile
among the IAAM membership — especially the work it’s doing in the areas of
educational programming and professional development.
“The Advisory Council will be a valuable resource not only for our chair, but
for the other Foundation Trustees and, of course, our members,” says Sauers.
“Think of it as a sounding board for ideas — a thinktank environment that will
generate practical advice and realistic solutions that the Chair and the Board
can implement immediately.”
There are still some members who may not fully understand the important role the
Foundation plays in the sustainability of our organization or the impact its
work has had (and continues to have) on our industry. LeMahieu and Sauers are
both convinced that if the average member can be made to fully understand what
the Foundation does and the vital services their individual contributions make
possible, he will support it in its mission. The newly created advisory panel
will help bring about this needed awareness.
Sauers is currently in the process of identifying and recruiting IAAM members to
serve on the Chairman’s Advisory Council. “I’m particularly interested in
talking to past chairs of the Board of Trustees,” Sauers continues. “When it
comes to IAAM as an organization — and the Foundation in particular — they bring
a great deal of institutional knowledge to the table. They are sensitive to the
goals and objectives of the Foundation, and they have a proven track record of
being dedicated and committed to supporting its work.”
In addition to the Chairman’s Advisory Council, LeMahieu also announced the
selection of three new members to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees: Jane
Kleinberger, Rick Martin and Craig Skiem.
Jane Kleinberger is chairman of the board for Paciolan, a leading
ticketing, fundraising and marketing technology solutions provider for live
entertainment organizations. Kleinberger joined Paciolan in 1981 and has served
as the company’s CEO since 1992, becoming its board’s chairman in April 2002.
Kleinberger serves on the board of directors for the International Ticketing
Association (INTIX) and actively participates in various trade and professional
organizations as a guest speaker and facilitator for panel discussions. She
studied accounting and business administration at the University of Cincinnati,
and has worked in the computer industry for 28 years. Kleinberger is an
outspoken proponent of “open market connectivity,” allowing entertainment
organizations to integrate various technology providers’ solutions in order to
leverage their brands.
Rick Martin is a managing senior principal of HOK Sport and has
more than 30 years experience as a project manager and project architect. His
project experience features an extensive portfolio of multipurpose arenas,
including NBA/NHL, civic and collegiate facilities.
Martin is currently the principal in charge of the new Sprint Center in downtown
Kansas City. He also has served as principal in charge of such projects as
Philips Arena in Atlanta; the Toyota Center in Houston; Puerto Rico
Coliseum
in San Juan; and World Arena in Colorado Springs. Martin received his bachelor’s
degree in architecture from Kansas State University. He is a registered
architect and is NCARB certified.
He also is a member of the American Institute of Architects; the International
Association of Assembly Managers; Stadium Managers Association; the National
Association for Sports Commissions; and the Council for Urban Economic
Development.
Craig Skiem is a principal with CSL Intl. His extensive experience
in the sports and entertainment industry includes projects in a multitude of
cities and countries. His project experience embodies consulting services for
public and private clients in the professional sports industry.
Some of the services Skiem provided to the professional sports industry include
valuation analysis, buy/sell assistance, project planning, marketing and
financial feasibility studies, facility location/site analyses, facility design
criteria, operations review and economic impact analyses.
Some of the specific projects Skiem has worked on — as well as many of the teams
with which he has been involved with in recent years — include the Jacksonville
Jaguars, Boston Celtics and Bruins, Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia Flyers and
76ers, Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres and
Charlotte Hornets. Craig received a B.A. in accounting and business
administration from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.
