DIABLO STADIUM STUDENT INTERNSHIP


Goal of Position:
To provide students in the field of Parks and Recreation and/or Stadium Management opportunities to apply their academic study and fulfill their university requirements. To enhance the operations, programs, and services at Tempe Diablo Stadium with the assistance of intern.

Duties: To assist the Tempe Diablo Stadium in facilitating an improved quality of life for Tempe's citizens and patrons of the Stadium. The intern will assist staff and management in planning, coordinating, operating the stadium, special events, and services. Areas include but not limited to: stadium management, customer service, Spring Training, special events, athletic events, and staffing.

Qualifications: Intern should be a junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in Parks and Recreation, Stadium Management, or Sports Management at an accredited institution.
Time Frame: Number of hours required by college or university. Typically 35-40 hours per week for 10 to 14 weeks. Hours vary throughout internship, requiring some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Internship will begin the third week of January.

Benefits: Compensation is $10.50 an hour for 35-40 hours per week.

ASSISTANT EVENT COORDINATOR/GRADUATE INTERN
WINSTON-SALEM ENTERTAINMENT-SPORTS COMPLEX
IRREGULAR WORK HOURS
$10.00 per hour stipend.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under immediate supervision, this position will be assigned to the Event Services Division of the Complex responsible for the planning and coordination of events and activities at the Complex. The individual in this position will provide direct assistance to the Event Coordinators in their performance as the primary liaison between the facility and the Lessee for planning a wide variety of events and activities. Events and activities will include, but are not limited to, collegiate basketball and football, major concert events, conventions, trade shows civic events, the Dixie Classic Fair and ice rink operations. The position will provide assistance in ensuring that all requests of the Lessee are met while adhering to City and Complex policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to: gathering event technical information in advance of events; assist in preparing expense estimates prior to events; assist in conducting pre-event walk through to assure facility set-up, cleanliness, and safety; on-site assistance at events; providing critique notes after events; assist in the administering and facilitating settlement/billing information; communicating verbally and in writing all facets of events as they pertain to each specific department; dealing with guests while providing world-class guest relations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Sports Management. Special consideration shall be given to those candidates having facility operations and event management education and/or experience. Must have the ability to make good decisions when under pressure. Excellent organizational skills are a must. Possess exceptional written and verbal communications skills. Must have computer experience in Windows XP, Microsoft applications and Excel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Reasonable accommodations may be substituted for the physical requirements listed below).

Be able to maneuver effectively within an office environment. This individual should be expected to work on their feet. Considerable walking on level surfaces as well as steps should be expected. Position is expected to work a flexible schedule to include nights, holidays and weekend hours.

UNC CHARLOTTE
RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
EVENT SERVICES INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION

The Recreational Facilities Department is responsible for the management of the campus recreational areas, including both indoor and outdoor facilities. The James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (which houses the Halton Arena) and the Belk Gymnasium are the two primary complexes managed by this Department. These multi-use facilities provide the University with space to meet the athletic, entertainment, educational, recreational, and social needs of the campus community as well as the greater Charlotte community.

General Statement of Duties: At the direction of departmental supervisors, the Event Services Intern will learn the operational functions of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center / Halton Arena specifically, and other Recreational Facilities operations generally. The Event Services Intern is accountable to assist in the event management and facility operations of the department by assisting with various projects. Internship commitment lasts from mid-August to mid-May (Average 40 hours per week.)

Stipend: $9.25/hr.

Primary Assignments:

     • Event Coordination: assist with the planning, coordination and execution of events within the
       Halton Arena, the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, and other Recreational Facilities. Events
       include: meetings, conferences, concerts, UNC Charlotte’s Women’s Volleyball games, Men’s
       and Women’s Basketball games, expositions, and festivals. Event responsibilities may include
       (but are not limited to): event opening & closing activities, serving as event staff, supervising
       student front-of-house staff, assisting events personnel with various functions as required,
       and event management of certain events in and/or around the arena and facility.

     • Facilities Services: assist with administrative and operational functions of the Building Services
       Department. Administrative duties include budgeting, cost control, equipment inventory,
       preventive maintenance, record controls, safety reports, event follow-up, and payroll
       functions. Operational duties include event set-up, strike, facility preparation, and general
       facility oversight.

     • Technical Services: assist with administrative and daily technical support functions of the
       department, including sound systems, lighting, and audio-visual equipment, video presentation.

     • Maintenance Mechanic Services: work with our maintenance mechanics to gain a basic
       understanding of facility mechanical and HVAC systems operations. Assist with preventative
       maintenance programs as well as our safety inspections.

     • Assist with additional special project(s) related to the Recreational Facilities department.
       Examples may include: energy management reviews, concert staffing, emergency evacuation
       planning, fire safety programs, handicap accessibility reviews, computerized equipment controls
       analysis, uniform and staff attire program, and technical manual review and analysis.

Qualifications:

   • College student with study emphasis in Public Facility Management or a related field. Student
     must receive college credit for the internship.
   • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel) is preferred.
   • Must be organized, flexible, and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
   • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
   • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
   • Must be detail oriented
   • Previous hands-on experience in similar environment is desirable.
   • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as required.

MCC GUEST AND SECURITY SERVICES INTERN
MINNEAPOLIS CONVENTION CENTER

General Description:


The Guest and Security Services Intern shall be responsible for learning and understanding the day-to-day operations of the Guest and Security Services Department and the corresponding aspects related to the Minneapolis Convention Center.

At the completion of this program, the intern should have a basic understanding of the procedures and techniques for effectively managing the Guest Services operation and providing customer service at a large convention center. Guest and Security Services includes the following areas: Part-time staff - Coat Check and Concierge, Contract Staff – Event & Building Security, Ticket Takers, Ushers, Event Medical Technicians, Off-duty Police, Parking Operations, Central Alarm Station (CAS) Operators, 24/7 Camera Surveillance, Life-Safety and Fire Code Compliance.

In addition, the Guest and Security Services Intern must have the ability to excel in a team-setting and will be responsible for establishing positive relationships with customers, clients, and co-workers. Guest and Security Services Intern will be responsible for working unconventional hours that serve the needs of our events and be empowered to complete job responsibilities with a minimum amount of oversight by a supervisor. While performing these duties the intern must promote safety, efficiency, and quality of service.


Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

• Observe and incorporate the Guest and Security
  Services aspect of the event process and
  understand how it relates to the overall event
  planning process from a facility perspective.
• Attend event review and sales meetings. Attend
  pre-convention and post-convention meetings with
  MCC staff and show management.
• Learn Life Safety and NFPA codes and how they
  are required and mandated in our facility during
  events.
• Learn the dynamics and principles in crowd
  management.
• Learn how to research shows/events and determine
  how shows were managed in the past; how many
  people attended; and if any special needs or problems
  were identified by the facility hosting previous
  productions.
• Learn how the Minneapolis Convention Center and
  other entertainment/hospitality/sports venues in the
  area compete for business. Have the opportunity to
  explore and shadow events at other facilities.
• Develop an individualized study plan that identifies
  his/her specific goals and expectations.
• Interact with customers by working concierge desk,
  and learning about the Minneapolis Metropolitan area.
• Learn the retail operations and cash management of
  coat check.

Additional Requirements:

• Guest Services Intern must maintain a professional
  appearance and attitude at all times while on duty
  at the Convention Center. Dress is expected to be
  professional – business casual. Interns should
  contact their supervisors prior to assignment to
  different areas  within the MCC.
• Guest Services Intern must be able to stand for
  long periods of time. Additionally, interns must be
  willing to walk extended distances.

Compensation/Hours:

• This is an hourly paid internship; the selected
  candidate will work intermittent hours
  ranging from 20 to 40 hrs per week.

Duration:

• Beginning date is February 1st, 2010 and we are
  looking for a 6 to 8 month commitment.
