Venue professionals reported anticipated effects of the economy on their venues in the "Thriving in a Tough Economy" survey conducted by the Industry Affairs Council in January. 64.4% anticipate a decrease in event attendance, 56% anticipate a decrease in gross ancillary revenue and their operating budget, and over 50% anticipate a decrease in the number of events, the rental revenue generated by events and the food and beverage revenue.
